‘Choir gowns flying high’

Good afternoon,

Your much-anticipated weekly newsletter will follow as soon as tech issues allow, but for now, an extra-special Companionship email.

First, Compline will go ahead this evening, at 10 pm in St Salvator’s Chapel.  This will be the positively last and final appearance of Amelia Poole as the Douglas Gifford Scholar, conducting singers from St Leonard’s Chapel Choir.  Amelia was the 2019/20 Scholar, then organised extra online services throughout May, and now has served for half a further semester.  And all so well organised and with such lovely music.  Amelia, enjoy your retirement – though I know that you will be making music elsewhere.  Here is the link to reserve your space this evening: https://events.st-andrews.ac.uk/events/compline-24/  24 spaces remain.

Then, there are already some lovely performances available to catch up on and see and hear in this year’s St Andrews Voices Festival, called Distant Voices.  See https://www.standrewsvoices.com/  A real highlight will be performances by St Salvator’s Chapel Choir which I was lucky enough to catch as they were being recorded and filmed outdoors at the bandstand off the Scores last Saturday.  These will be available at the voices website from this Saturday.

Indeed this Sunday’s 11 am service in St Salvator’s Chapel will be a special Voices Service with extra singing from choristers including hymns.  This will take place within government guidelines, but our most choral service yet this year.  25 spaces are still available to be reserved for what promises to be a lovely occasion: https://events.st-andrews.ac.uk/events/sunday-worship-47/

Although live-streaming equipment has now been installed in the chapel, we will not be live-streaming this Sunday’s service, instead having a practice run.  And so we will be having an online service this Sunday on Teams at 5 pm, with the preacher, hymns, readings, prayers and community.  Here is the link: Join Microsoft Teams Meeting
