‘4 October – reminder’
Good morning,
I just wanted to confirm that tomorrow service at St Salvator’s Chapel will go ahead as planned, at 11 am. There are currently 13 places still available – feel free to reserve a place at https://events.st-andrews.ac.uk/ We now have some experience in providing a safe form of in-person worship. It’s wonderful to be together.
The service will feature music by organists and members of Chapel Choir singing solos by Mendelssohn among others. I’ll be speaking on Unmute – reflecting on what it feels like (for good and perhaps for ill) when God speaks. Here is the image by Caravaggio from the order of service, which I remember seeing for the first time on a visit to Rome when I was a with fellow students from Dublin, with an angel speaking to the gospel-writer:

The Inspiration of Saint Matthew.
If you cannot be at the chapel service in person, you may want to attend the online service at 5 pm, with the same readings, readers, prayers and sermon, with hymn-singing and a psalm from a chorister. Here is the link: Join this online event through Microsoft Teams
Today I will be attending the annual General Assembly of the Church of Scotland – online. If I try to speak, I will probably forget to unmute…
The news of the American President going into hospital reminds us of the fragility of life, and that Covid has affected people across the world in all walks of life. I hope for his speedy recovery, and that all will know strength and hope in these difficult times.
Yours,
Donald.
