‘Drive forwards’

Good morning,

I got my car washed yesterday at Morrisons.  I hadn’t been for a while and it was pretty dirty.  As the whirling green washers started to envelop the car, I happened to see a name on the machinery.  Could it be?  Was I mistaken?  I quickly took a picture…

I wasn’t mistaken.  And I wasn’t having a religious delusion.  The Morrisons car wash really is called Christ.  It’s a German company – Otto Christ Wash Systems.  They make units to wash cars, buses and trains, based in Memmingen in Bavaria.  Their website helpfully lists resources under MyChrist, and offers Christ Car Care and a Christ Wash App.

Well, you may be there ahead of me.  Could there be a simpler illumination of the Christian doctrine of being cleansed from our sins?  Those green rollers are rollers of grace, the soapy suds are suds of forgiveness and the light saying Drive forwards is the light on our path as forgiven people.

Indeed, when chapel services have to be Covid-secure, should we be thinking of drive-through baptisms?

Just a thought for this windy autumnal day.

Yours,

Donald.
