Founders and Benefactors

Greetings,

This is the weekend when the University commemorates its Founders and Benefactors.  It’s a bit stripped-down this year – no lovely dinner at University House, no lunch at the Chaplain’s House with leaders from all the faith societies, no grand public service with augmented congregation at St Salvator’s Chapel.  But, tech permitting, there will be meetings between the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland and the University Principal, the Director of Student Services, and with a range of students from across faiths and philosophies of life.  If you are a student and would like to meet Martin Fair the Moderator this afternoon between 4.15 and 5.15 pm, let me know and I will send you the link.

He will also be preaching as part of our livestreamed service tomorrow, Sunday 21 February, from 11 am.  Here is the link, then follow the steps to the livestream: https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/community/worship/  I’ve attached the order of service.

As part of the service we will add a new item to the Tree of Hope.  This is a physical sign of our trust that the future will be good, and that we will again be able to meet together for worship, fellowship, education and community.  Here is a picture of the tree  taken after last Sunday’s service.

You can see a card with a prayer, a candle, a picture of the Empire Windrush and a joyful heart, all signs of hope from previous Sundays.  Tomorrow a symbol of the University’s students will be added.  Do you have ideas as to what could hang from the tee’s branches?  Would you like to make something for the tree?  All suggestions are welcome.

Take care,
Yours,
Donald.
