‘Walk, march and remember’
Good afternoon,
Another Saturday and another lovely day of sunshine here in North-East Fife, even if a sharp north wind was blowing. Maya and I took a walk on the coastal path from St Andrews to Boarhills, slithering over the muddy path and nearly being overwhelmed by the high spring tide, but we made it safely, and loved the clear air, the oystercatchers, herring gulls and eider ducks who shared the shore with us. Here’s a view of the Rock and Spindle, not far out from St Andrews.

And from near the end of the walk, the slightly less ancient carving on a slab in Boarhills:

I don’t know who carved this – I suspect fairly recently in a Celticy style – but it cheered me up. A boar, barns and kindly-looking sun.
Tomorrow we hold our final livestreamed Sunday service from St Salvator’s Chapel before the spring vacation. There will be music by Gibbons, hymns about wisdom, and a sermon by Revd Richard Littledale, who will speak about his alma mater (nourishing mother), the University of St Andrews, in his sermon for Mothering Sunday.
Many people have been affected by the death of Sarah Everard. When I was an undergraduate 30 years ago in Aberdeen I remember Reclaim the Night marches. It seems astonishing that there is still such a need for greater safety for women and girls. Our own Feminist Society have organised a livestreamed vigil from 6 pm today which I will be supporting shortly. Further details here: https://www.facebook.com/standrewsfeminists/
Take care,
Yours,
Donald.
