‘Walking the Fife Pilgrim Way’

Monday 2 August 2021

Good morning,

It’s raining in St Andrews, but I hope it’s dry in west Fife.  A friend and I are walking part of the Fife Pilgrim Way today, from North Queensferry to Dunfermline, an alternative route to the section from Culross to Dunfermline we walked exactly this time last year.  I may share a picture or two from the walk next week.  We’re beginning at a place (Queensferry) named for Queen Margaret of Scotland, later St Margaret, who encouraged pilgrims to cross the Firth of Forth there and then proceed to St Andrews.  Perhaps it is no coincidence that I am now Interim Moderator in a church named after St Margaret, in Glenrothes, a town very much on the route of the contemporary Fife Pilgrim Way.

Tomorrow (Sunday 1 August) I’ll be leading the service there – it’s an early start – 10 am.  A couple of students (perhaps better to say brand new graduates) will be sharing the service with me, and I’ll be preaching on two sides of fear – Be afraid… Be very afraid….  But also: Nothing to be afraid of.

And for those who don’t know it, here’s a picture of the church I took last week, at summer’s height:

Yours,

Donald.
