Vigil for Ukraine

Monday 28 February 2022

Good morning,

Many people in our community have been shocked by events in Ukraine.  Prayers were said in this morning’s Chapel service for all affected, and Claire Innes-Hopkins, our Director of Chapel Music, played the Ukrainian National Anthem as we left the chapel.  As Chaplains we are supporting students and staff from Ukraine and Russia, and/or with family there.  The student-led Refugee Action St Andrews approached me yesterday to help liaise over a vigil for Ukraine.  This has now been organised with support from across the University.  The details are as follows:

Vigil for Ukraine

Students, staff and others are welcome to gather in St Salvator’s Quad at 5.15 pm today Monday 28 February in solidarity with all affected by the invasion of Ukraine.  Words will be offered alongside silence, and the chance to light a candle.  Students and others will stand together in unity against aggression and violence, and in favour of peace, respect and our common humanity.  All are welcome regardless of nationality, background, faith or philosophy of life.   Further details from the Chaplaincy at [email protected] or 01334 462866

If you are able to attend, I hope to see you there.  And feel free to forward this email widely.

Yours,
Donald.
