International Woman’s Day

Good morning,

It’s International Woman’s Day.  And it falls squarely in Lent.  Here are words from Sam Wells from Power and Passion, which offer a reflection on women in the days before Jesus’ death, and at the crucifixion itself:

Just as at Bethany the woman alone was able to perceive the inevitability of Jesus’ coming death, likewise now at the cross the women alone are able to face the reality of the cross. One would have thought that the debate in the following centuries would not have been on the question of whether women could lead God’s people but about whether men could.

The Crucifixion, Frauenkirche, Munich.

Yours,
Donald.
