Advent: 2 December

Good morning,

This is the second day of the Advent Calendar, and also the day of the University Carol Service.  7.30 pm at Holy Trinity Church on South Street, with doors opening at 6.45 pm.  Beautiful music from St Salvator’s Chapel Choir, familiar carols for us all to sing, and my reflection on the Christmas story, called Peace also takes courage.  It’s not live-streamed, but will be filmed and we will share that link in due course.  There will be a collection as people leave for the UN Refugee Agency Winter Appeal, and Fife’s own Hope Chest Community Project Christmas Appeal.  All are welcome – come in good time for a good seat and extra music.  Christmas jumpers and Santa hats welcome but not obligatory…

Today’s picture (from Cuba) and haiku reflect on these words from Luke, which will be read in this evening’s service:

By the tender mercy of our God,
the dawn from on high will break upon us,
to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Night’s shadows and sounds –
then light, alarms, disturbing
their peace, singing peace

Yours,
Donald.
