Advent: 7 December
Greetings,
Behind today’s window are a second image and haiku exploring the annunciation and the commitment asked of Mary. My photograph was taken at The Met in New York, and shows a painting from 1510 by the Netherlandish artist Gerard David called The Annunciation. The dove descending on Mary is a depiction of the Holy Spirit, a theme in the Christmas story brought out by Jill Walker in her sermon at the Alumni Carol Service on Monday evening. The haiku explores what the overshadowing by the Holy Spirit could or would mean for Mary.
Do not fear, Mary –
shame, danger, pain, death and grief –
for God is with you
Yours,
Donald.
